“And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life.”

1 John 5:11-12a
I like to relax in a chair with a good book at the beach. “This is the life,” I think to myself. But, characteristic of all things temporary, the sun will set, the clouds will come, and the book will be finished.
Eternal life in Christ is a miraculous moment that never ends. It is not a far-off blessing reserved only for life after death. Believers have an unfading and flourishing existence that begins with faith in Him and is characterized by transformation into His likeness. We become part of another world even while we are living here on earth—it’s the world of God’s family.
We all could name moments in life that seemed to be “as good as it gets.” Those are small pictures of what is to come, foreshadowing another life beyond this one in which everything that is lovely lasts forever and is designed to bring praise to our Savior. In this world, the beach day will end. The work promotion may lose its thrill. The sweet days cuddling a baby will move on to challenging years. But through it all, you have life in Christ. And that is something you can cling to forever.
