“I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.”

Acts 20:21
There is no shortage of ideas about religion, and there never has been. Once I met a lady who said she believes that when people die, they become stars. I asked how she knew this to be true. She replied that it was just something she thought up. Another time, a man pulled out his phone to show me photos of the golden idol his family worships. Even within what is accepted as “Christianity,” there are false teachers preaching false gospels. As today’s reading shows, “savage wolves” and false teachers have always lurked among God’s people.
If Jesus is to change everything in our lives, He must have everything, including our minds and our beliefs. Like Paul, our life’s goal must be to “know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of… his sufferings” (Philippians 3:10).
The only form of religion that unites us with God is the one God Himself prescribed: turning to Him in repentance for sin and believing what His Son did on our helpless behalf. Rest your searching soul on nothing but the gospel of Jesus Christ.
